The Far Xplorer Mobile Base Camp

We go where few can. Unlike most Himalayan outfitters, we’re able to push far beyond popular tourist services to explore the untouched corners of Nepal. To do so we modeled our roving hotel after the luxurious base camps used by high-mountain climbers in the Himalayas. We like hard travel, but we definitely don’t rough it.

The hallmarks of a Far Xplorer camp include amazing meals, attentive team support, and picturesque vistas. We spend months searching for the best places to establish our self-contained hotel and go the extra step to ensure every traveler is as comfortable as possible.

Each basecamp includes

  • Private sleeping tents (3-person tents for extra space)

  • Dining tent with multi-course meals served twice a day

  • Shower tent with a pressurised hot water shower system

  • Dedicated restroom tent complete with flushing toilet

  • Hot water bottles on cold nights & tea service at 4pm each day

  • Hot tea or coffee delivered directly to your tent each morning at sunrise

Our camping strategy

An expedition into Nepal requires flexibility. There are times when landslides, unexpected weather, or unforeseen circumstances force us to alter our route or schedule. For us, that’s when the best adventures begin. With our own camping crew in tow, we’re able to comfortably camp anywhere we need to.

An army marches on its stomach

Our camp master and head cook spent more than 20 years preparing meals for mountaineers on Mount Everest expeditions. The ultimate hosts, they know how to keep travelers well fed while showcasing the exotic and delicious foods of their native homeland. They also know how to accommodate western appetites and will occasionally include French fries, pasta, pizza, and even bake a cake now and then. If you have specific dietary requests we can accommodate those as well.

We love a good view. Given the extremely rugged terrain of Nepal, it’s not easy to find flat ground suitable for our camps. In many case hilltops offer the best place to camp, and unbelievable views.

This view below is right outside a tent on our Jungle to Himalaya Expedition. That’s Annapurna, the 10th tallest mountain on earth at nearly 27,000 feet tall. What a way to wake up!

This camp, one of our favorites in Nepal, has commanding views of the Himalayas and sits within the ruins of a 300 year old Hindu city.
