In the late 1600s the region now known as Nepal was comprised of 23 small kingdoms. On this first-ever expedition, we venture deep into five of those ancient lands, each unique in its natural and cultural identity.
For the past two years the Far Xplorer team has scouted this new route west of Nepal’s well traveled tourist tracks. It has been our quest to find the most untouched and authentic corners of Nepal where the people live as they have for centuries.
This special adventure combines the beautiful and largely unknown foothill regions of the west with the soaring summits of the world’s tallest mountains. It’s a journey we crafted to showcase the amazing diversity of Nepal from thick forests and terraced hills, to the arid escarpments of the Tibetan Plateau on the northern slopes of the Himalayas. We even plumb the depths of the world’s deepest gorge.
Over the years we have come to learn the allure of the Himalayas draws many travelers to Nepal, but it’s the people that bring them back time and again. This trip, set against green hills and ivory white summits offers rich cultural explorations, unbelievable views, and exciting adventures around every turn.

FOUR AMAZING EXPERIENCES IN ONE EXPEDITION
-
KATHMANDU
It’s the ancient gateway to the Himalayas and profoundly exotic. Kathmandu is the starting point of every Far Xplorer journey and we get to experience it through the eyes of our award-winning cultural guide and Kathmandu native.
-
CULTURES OF NEPAL
Along our route we will interact with various peoples in the remote hill regions of central Nepal. Far removed from the tourists tracks, this is where we find the most authentic Nepal, one not changed in centuries.
-
SIVALIK FOOTHILLS
Few people realize the most magical stratum of the Himalayas are the massive foothills at their base. With millions of terraces, thousands of quaint villages, and endless roads to explore, it is the foothills that our travelers remember most about Nepal.
-
THE GREAT HIMALAYAS
Once in the Mustang Valley our route scrapes the feet of the tallest mountains on earth including the 7th and 10th tallest. It’s a spectacular time of year to visit the Himalayas wit their ivory white peaks set against deep blue skies.
ROUTE OVERVIEW
After a full day exploring the ancient sites of Kathmandu, we hop on a quick 30-minute flight to Pokhara to meet our expedition team. For the next few days we meander through the beautiful Sivalik Foothills while establishing our camps with commanding views of the nearby Himalayas. As we move into the Mustang Valley we pass through the deepest gorge on earth at a staggering 18,500 feet deep. Once in the Himalayas, we slow our pace of travel to better enjoy the amazing vistas and cultural explorations of the region. A quick ride back down the valley puts us back in Pokhara for a night before heading back to Kathmandu.

ABOUT NEPAL
Home to eight of the ten tallest mountains on earth, Nepal is a tiny country but unimaginably diverse. With more than 100 unique cultures, it is also a land of wild rhinos and Bengal tigers, Buddhist monks, and Hindu Sadhus.

“We spent 10 days in western Nepal and not once did we see another tourist or traveler. The Far Xplorer crew know Nepal so well, some days we didn’t have a plan but had the most incredible time, probably becuase the day was not fully planned. It takes real pros to pull that off.”
The Far Xplorer Basecamp
To find the most exciting and authentic corners of Nepal, we often have to push far beyond the reach of hotels and other travel services. Our luxury basecamp, modeled after the camps used by mountaineers to climb the world's biggest peaks, allows us to go - anywhere. We are still the only company to offer this unique service and it has become a hallmark of a Far Xplorer expedition.

I knew Nepal was going to be fascinating, but it surpassed my expectations entirely. I can’t wait to go back and can’t imagine not doing it again with Far Xplorer.

-
Riders on this trip will need good off-road riding skills and confidence in variable conditions which include loose surfaces, steep slopes, and all the fun conditions of a Nepali road.
-
To ensure maximum enjoyment, riders should have good fitness to make long days in tough conditions more enjoyable. Please be prepared for challenging days with physical activities required.
-
Riders must be 18 years of age, hold a valid motorcycle license, and ideally you should obtain an international drivers license, which is very cheap and easy to obtain online.
And again - prior off-road riding experience and confidence in mixed terrain is a must. -
We call our trips “expeditions” for a reason. Tours are scripted things with predictability part of the plan. Not every aspect of this type of expedition can be planned with any specificity. This is true expedition travel.

I cannot thank the Far Xplorer team enough for putting this trip together. Their knowledge of Nepal and ability to take us to such remote places is amazing. The entire trip was so much better than I expected and will be hard to beat.
