We created this trip for those seeking the ultimate Himalayan experience. From Kathmandu we transition to Pokhara at the base of the 10th tallest mountain on earth. From there, we venture deep into the Himalayas and into the famous Mustang Valley.

For nearly two thousand years, traders and pilgrims traveled through the Mustang Valley on route to the Great Silk Road far to the north. It's a place where ancient monasteries and villages still cling to the flanks of the world’s tallest mountains.

With a shorter 7-day itinerary, this trip is geared towards travelers with limited time, or those wishing to fold in a motorcycle ride with other adventures in Nepal. Offered with our lowest trip fare in years, it's also one of our best values with careful attention given to our hotels, lodges, meals, and other included services.

WE TURN DAYDREAMS INTO EPIC MEMORIES

The first time I saw Annapurna I couldn’t take my eyes off it. The Far Xplorer crew knew right where to take us for the best views.
— Charles - Lower Mustang Expedition

ROUTE OVERVIEW

This action-packed ride begins on October 13 in the mountainside town of Pokhara. After an exciting first few miles in the rugged foothills, our route takes us to the hilltop town of Dhampus with commanding views of Annapurna, the 10th tallest peak on earth. From there we dive deep into the Mustang Valley for the next five nights as we explore the high passes and rugged side roads of the Great Himalayas. We pass through the deepest gorge on earth at 18,500 feet deep and ascend to the ancient and sacred town of Muktinath. On our return to Pokhara we stop in Gorepani where a short sunrise hike takes us to one of the best views in all of the Himalayas.

FOUR AMAZING EXPERIENCES IN ONE EXPEDITION

  • KATHMANDU

It’s the ancient gateway to the Himalayas and profoundly exotic. Kathmandu is the starting point of every Far Xplorer journey and we get to experience it through the eyes of our award-winning cultural guide and Kathmandu native.

  • POKHARA

    POKHARA

Pokhara is best known as Nepal’s Adventure City. Situated on the shores of Fewa Lake and right under the soaring summit of Annapurna, it’s a beautiful and charming place to use as our start and end point.

  • SIVALIK FOOTHILLS

Few people realize the most magical stratum of the Himalayas are the massive foothills at their base. With millions of terraces, thousands of quaint villages, and endless roads to explore, it is the foothills that our travelers remember most about Nepal.

  • GREAT HIMALAYAS

The entire route offers endless vistas of the Great Himalayan mountains from various viewpoints. Our last day takes us within arm’s reach of Annapurna, one of Nepal’s most famous peaks.

Time is a thief - It robs you of the memories you never made. Don’t wait another day. Make your memories today.

ACCOMMODATIONS

  • Nomad Hotel Kathmandu

This modern and quiet hotel is our base for the first and last nights of our trip. It’s perfectly located in central Kathmandu.

  • Ghorepani Teahouse

To get the full experience of rural village life we will visit the quaint community of Ghorepani near Annapurna (27,000ft)

  • Hotel Karuna

Getting to Pokhara The start/end point of this adventure is Pokhara, Nepal's adventure city. Travelers can either arrange for their own transfer from Kathmandu to Pokhara, or we can include those logistics as part of our Pokhara Transfer Package. Not only will we make all of the reservations for arrival and departure hotels in Kathmandu, we will include round trip domestic flights between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Travelers requesting a personalized pickup at the airport in Kathmandu can include that at no additional cost. The advantage of our new transfer package is one-click convenience as we take all of the guess work out of where to stay and how to get to and from Pokhara. All for just $650 USD.

  • It's a longer ride on this day as we descend into the foothills and then climb back into the Mustang Valley. Our accommodations are in Tatopani near the famous natural hotsprings.

  • This is a fun day as it takes us deep into the Himalayas along narrow roads including some stretches of singletrack. It's not a big mileage day, but mind blowing.

  • This is the day for summit seeking as we ride to 12,500 feet and the sacred village of Muktinath. Along the way we explore man of the region's most epic side roads, some climbing to unimagineable view points.

  • Another fun ride takes us back down the valley then along the foothills to the village of Gorepani, also known as horse water. Famous amongst trekkers, it offers more outstanding views.

  • Since we're in no hurry to end the ride, we drop into the high foothills for more explorations of terraced hills and deeply cut canyons. It's a day for bridges and high adventure.

  • With one last ride on twisty roads, we conclude our epic journey where it all began, in the colorful streets of Pokhara.

Thoughts from the Expedition Leader

The Mustang Valley is not a big area in geographical terms. That relieves any pressure to spend our days covering big miles. Instead, the web of tiny roads laced throughout the valley allow us to let the adventure unfold organically. We can follow our curiosity down tiny tracks leading to places few outsiders ever get to see. We might stumble across a new vista, ancient temple, or any manner of unexpected experiences. That’s the best part of the Mustang Valley. Every time we go there - it’s different.

Simply brilliant. The Far Xplorer guys provided an experience beyond expectation. It could not have been better. - Graeme, Upper Mustang 2023

How to grab your spot

To be a part of this epic adventure, simply complete our short online booking form and submit your $2,000 USD trip deposit. Our expedition leader will follow up within mere hours to discuss the next steps on your journey to the Himalayas.

  • The deposit of $2,000 holds each rider's spot. Final payment is not due until July of 2025. We can also take payments of any amount at any time leading up to the due date.

  • Once the minimum of six riders has been met, we recommend purchaseing airfare as soon as possible. The destination airport is Kathmandu (KTM).

  • To meet the requirements for permits in restricted areas, all riders need to purchase travel insurance. We have joined forces with Travelex with policies optimized for our type of travels.

  • Riders on this trip will need good off-road riding skills and confidence in variable conditions which include loose surfaces, steep slopes, and all the fun conditions of a Nepali road. THIS IS AN OFF ROAD ADVENTURE.

  • To ensure maximum enjoyment, riders should have good fitness to help with proper acclimatization to altitude (9,000 feet). These are active days and good base fitness is essential.

  • Riders must be 18 years of age, hold a valid motorcycle license, and ideally you should obtain an international drivers license, which is very cheap and easy to obtain online.

And again - prior off-road riding experience and confidence in mixed terrain is a must.

  • We call our trips “expeditions” for a reason. Tours are scripted things with predictability part of the plan. We allow our trips to unfold organically as necessary and place the spirit of adventure far above the itinerary.
